These were the large greenhouses used for scientific agricultural and botanical research, including the effects of radiation on plant life. This area included laboratories and self contained greenhouses with rather large irrigation systems. A radiological laboratory established in the former kindergarten after Pripyat was evacuated after the disaster of 1986, there are many many samples of soil and sand and water and other substances in the laboratory, many with dates on of 1996 – quite some time after the disaster.
