With the constant aerial assault on the British Isle by the Luftwaffe, towns and cities and civilians sought refuge underground.\u00a0 Morrison and Anderson shelter were available to the public to erect in their own properties.\u00a0 Local Councils would also seek to build public shelters to offer refuge for people without sufficient protection.\u00a0 These shelters were buried deep within the local rock strata which would offer a natural protection against explosions.\u00a0 Deep shelters were also constructed within military establishments.<\/p>\n
