This area of Pripyat had the Police and Fire departments. There was also a large yard that would have been used by the city for amenity and city vehicles – kind of a council works department. Interestingly this was out the back of the police station which had an area with an open, but caged roof where prisoners could service vehicles. According to our guide the prisoners were required to undertake really menial repetitive tasks such as dismantling a crankshaft over and over again in all weathers. There was also a large radio mast (minus transmitters) that was the mast for communications in Pripyat.<\/p>\n
