A pretty good graphic animation of the way that the old, crumbling sarcophagus covering Reactor 4 is going to be renewed and covered with a state of the art ‘shield’ to ensure the containment of the radiation for a long time (hopefully!) has been revealed. It features a complicated ventilation system to maintain the environment inside it very precisely to slow any further deterioration. It is being built by a French consortium consisting of Vinci Construction Grands Projets and Bouygues Travaux Publics, named Novarka, under contract from the Chernobyl NPP.
