<item><title>St Crispins Hospital, Northampton</title>
<description>Northampton has for many years sent their Paupers to the fee-paying General Asylum in Northampton, in 1870 they were ordered to build their own institution.  The buildings were finally vacted in 1995 and have remained empty since, except for a minor conversion of one of the blocks.</description>

<description>In 1893, the London County Council opened the countries first Compact Arrow Asylum designed by GT Hine, revolutionising the design of the Victorian Asylum, it was the Fifth London Asylum.  In 1997 the Hospital closed its doors to the community and with the help of English Heritage, the ward blocks, hall, chapel and water tower were converted to housing to form a luxury gated community known as Repton Park</description>

<item><title>Claybury Asylum, Woodford Green</title>
<description>In 1863, the Surrey Magistrates undertook the design and construction of the Second Surrey County Asylum, after Springfield.  The Asylum opened in 1867 and the lead architect had been CH Howell, it admitted 650 patients in this year.  In 1994 the Asylum closed its doors for the last time, since then the site has been redeveloped with a housing estate and super market being built; only the Annexe, Chapel and Hall survive.</description>

<description>In 1898, Surrey Council selected Netherne as the site for a new Mental Hospitall to relieve an overcrowding problem at  the nearby Asylums of Springfield, Brookwood and Cane Hill.  The hospital opened in 1909 and served to community until it closed in 1994, it has since been converted to housing with much of the site being retained.</description>

<description>The 1st County Asylum Surrey was opened in 1841 to house 300 patients.  The asylum was designed in the corridor format and the frontage was stylised in a Tudor Style, complete with twisted chimney stacks.  The Asylum, now Springfield University Hospital, is one of the few remaining Victorian Asylum Buildings still open in the country and is one of the leading psychiatric units in the South of England.  </description>

<description>A Deep Shelter built into the wall of a sand quarry by Armstrong-Vickers Ltd to enable the Employees at the Brooklands Aircraft Factory to shelter from bombing attacks by the Germans, which were and attempt to delay or halt completely construction of vital RAF equipment and Planes. It is comprised of seventeen 180 foot long parallel tunnels joined by 3 connecting tunnels. </description>

<item><title>2nd County Asylum, Middlesex</title>
<description>The 2nd Middlesex Asylum, Colney Hatch was opened in 1851 to house 1000 patients.  The Asylum was designed in the corridor format and contained the longest corridor in Britain.  At its peak the Asylum house approximately 2500 patients, some of which were housed in temporary wooden structures, which were replaced after a fire killed 51 patients.  The site closed down in 1993 and has since been redeveloped into luxury homes.

<description>Hellingly Hospital was built due to the joint ownership of St Francis Hospital ending between East and West Sussex, it opened in 1903.  Hellingly is possibly the most dilapidated Asylum in the country, this aside, it still contains many original features, such as an impressive main hall and mosaic tiling in the admin building.</description>
