Welcome to TheTimeChamber

TheTimeChamber is a website dedicated to the interest that two brothers share in the social history that surrounds them, the great outdoors and music that accompanies them on their journeys.  At the centre of this site is their interest in the derelict, abandoned, or converted buildings that dot the landscape of Great Britain.  To accompany the photographs of the visited sites, a historical account has been written for each location.  This website aims to bring to life the forgotten memories of the institutes and establishments that the modern world has turned its back on and left to decay.

The website is broken into three different sections.  The exploration section contains photographs, a history and any other information on the many abandoned sites the website has visited.  The photography galleries contain a selection of our favourite shots, and the music section contains the latest jungle mixes from the website.  If you feel the need to contact the website for any reason, please email us via contact page

A Few Tweaks to the Website

Now it is the time of the year where the evenings draw to a close uncomfortably early, we have set about tweaking the website.  Firstly, the ROC Section now has a map that shows the location of all 1500 ROC posts in the UK.  We also have a facebook page dedicated to the website, we have realised that most of us are on there, so it is the best way to communicate with you all, like it here.  There are a few other surprises about the place as well, and a large number of link fixes...

Aldwych Underground Station

Well, every once in a while, London Underground grant permission for the Aldwych Station to be opened up for tours.  So we took a wander down, flaunted the no dSLR rule and had a tour.  It would have been great to be able to see it without the guides, but running down the tunnels of the Underground isn't our cup of tea.  See it here...

TheTimeChamber Blog

So after a few weeks of pondering Content Management Systems, and where to take the website, we have shoe-horned on a Wordpress system onto the side of the website.  This should allow us to update a little quicker, on subjects that wouldn't normally make it onto the main site.  We can also upload to the photography section much quicker... Visit it here, and if you feel like it, leave a comment!

RAF Wartling Project

Over the summer months, one half of TheTimeChamber joined Subbrit on helping to secure and make safe the RAF Wartling ROTOR bunker in Sussex.  This was a fantastic opportunity to see the inner workings of how to repair a bunker... See the photos here

Walton on the Hill Railway Tunnels

Well, back in May 2011, we took the plane over to the Ukraine to take a trip to the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.  Where we spent over two days exploring the sites, poking around the Pripyat City and experiencing a slice of the Eastern Bloc life.  We hope to go back soon.   See the photos here

The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone & Pripyat City

During a short visit to the City of Liverpool recently, we decided that a spot of exploring would be the order of the day, so we headed off North of the City Centre and quickly disappeared down a long abandoned railway tunnel that was only half completed...  See the photos here

Ystrad Einon Copper Mine

During our trip to North Wales to escape the rushes of Royal Marriage, we eventually found ourselves heading South.  We had one aim in mine, to see the last remaining underground water wheel in the country.  This was something else.  See the photos here...

Llanberis Bomb Store

Whilst the rest of the world sat and watched the Royal wedding, we decided to head to North Wales and escape the festivities, here we found an old RAF Bomb Store in Llanberis that was the scene of a huge explosion. See the photos here...

RAF Upper Heyford

This time in 2010 - we run a little behind on updates here - we visited RAF Upper Heyford and where treated to a tour from the base care taker, who knew his stuff and his stories. Read more about the visit here...

The Drakelow Tunnels

A short while ago, the current owners of the Drakelow Tunnels opened the tunnels up to the public for the first time, TheTimeChamber was in attendance to have a poke about.  Read more about the visit here...

Halberstadt Malachit Ammo Dump

Last summer, one half of TheTimeChamber booked themselves on an EasyJet Flight with one thing in their minds.  This was the Halberstadt Tunnels, which have a varied and grim history.  We have finally managed to sit down and get writing, so that we can bring you photographs and a short history...
