Whilst we have been away…

You may have noticed that the website has been a little quiet recently and been wondering what we have been up to?  We haven’t quite made it into the papers, although we were asked for our Chernobyl photos, but we have kept ourselves busy and out of trouble.  We have been out and about with our cameras and covered many miles and many countries, from the head lands in Wales to the bunkers of Germany. … Continue reading

When the world nearly annihilated itself……

20120417-104540.jpg

So, as you know TheTimeChamber is interested in all things Cold War and we have read lots of books on the subject and lots of articles and been to lots of museums and sites. This story is one that fascinates us the most though. Most people think that the closest we have come to Nuclear armageddon was the Cuban Misile Crisis in the 1960′s. That however is not quite correct and we in fact came … Continue reading

Exploring Fail!

20120411-065335.jpg

So thetimechamber set off in the rain yesterday after getting a good lead on an abandoned brickworks with bricks still on the line and machinery still in situ. Excellent we thought, abandoned industrial goodness. Arriving at the site we found a way in round the back, unbelievably there were no fences! It was muddy, hellishly muddy and every door and window had been covered with a steel plate and welded shut and the rain was … Continue reading

West Park Hospital demo/conversion update

20120406-212200.jpg

Seems that the conversion and demolition of West Park Hospital is going well. There are a number of new build houses on site with people living in them, and an old villa has been converted into a rather swish house. TheTimeChamber took the opportunity to grab some progress shots today, the builders were not to amused though and followed us around. Luckily we stuck to the footpaths and took our sweet ass time. 2 sales … Continue reading

Navigating Box Quarry- sense of direction not included

Box Mine is one of the largest Freestone Quarries in the Bath Area, it covers over 15 miles of under ground tunnels, dead ends, cranes and cross roads.  All of which looks very similar. Very, very similar. It is also publicly accessible and has a handy pub right next door, unlike a large number of the other underground quarries in the area which are used for storage of MOD operations. We recommend you Google Burlington, and prepare … Continue reading

A little on composition…

Lead On

We have always wanted to start up a tutorial section on TheTimeChamber and attempt to explain what we have learnt through our photography (we read somewhere that writing down what you learn helps you to remember it).  But we have always put this off as we have not really known where to start, or how to start.  Now that the website features and all singing and dancing blog, we have decided to start on the … Continue reading

Something for the Weekend…?

Here at TheTimeChamber we will openly admit that we do not get out an explore as much as we used too, or would like.  Somehow some people seem to be on the move almost constantly, devouring every single derelict structure in the country with their cameras. We are not entirely sure how they do this, but work and life are our excuses for only popping out occasionally (admittedly, January has seen us do more exploring … Continue reading

If we did flattery…

We would recommend the following photographer to you…! So, TheTimeChamber have been a long follower of this photographer as we both inhabit the same small space of the internet, otherwise known as Drum & Bass Arena.  His is a semi-pretentious photographer known as Simon.  He has travelled the World and the UK taking stunning photographs of the anything and everything. Anyway, we are going to avoid any flattery.  So here is the link to his new site: … Continue reading

A new containment structure for Chernobyl?

Reactor 4 and Memorial

A pretty good graphic animation of the way that the old, crumbling sarcophagus covering Reactor 4 is going to be renewed and covered with a state of the art ‘shield’ to ensure the containment of the radiation for a long time (hopefully!) has been revealed. It features a complicated ventilation system to maintain the environment inside it very precisely to slow any further deterioration. It is being built by a French consortium consisting of Vinci … Continue reading
